Rotary Club of Roma
An annual award honouring the spirit of Dr Jim Baker — Queensland's Flying Obstetrician — and the people in our region whose everyday work strengthens the community.
Nominations — 2026Queensland's Flying Obstetrician (1988–) · Founding Secretary, LRTAQ · Life Member, Rotary Club of Roma
Jim Baker founded the Queensland Flying Obstetric and Gynaecology Service in 1988 — the first of its kind in Australia — bringing specialist women's health care to twenty-four outback towns across three-quarters of the state.
He believed work itself can be service. This medal is presented in his memory to honour someone whose vocation, lived out daily with skill, pride and integrity, makes Maranoa stronger.
Nominations are open to the public. Nominees can come from any field — professional, trade, sales, or service. Employers are particularly encouraged to nominate one or more of their employees.
